Cathi Barnes (Board Chairman/Founder) has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Houghton College and a M.Ed. in Education Leadership and Policy from the University of Washington. She has six years of experience in the field of education. She has worked for the Corporation for National Service as an Americorps/VISTA designing a community literacy program and working with college students to increase service learning opportunities. She also has international experiences in both Kenya and Tanzania.


Ian Barnes (Board Vice-Chairman/Founder) has a B.A. in Political Science from Houghton College and an M.P.A. with a concentration in International Studies from the University of Washington. He has years of cross-cultural experience and service in Latin American and African communities. Ian has spent extensive periods in Kenya and Tanzania, a region he considers a second home.


Amie Ptak (Board Treasurer)
has a B.S. in Education from Western Washington University and is currently completing a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Washington. She has five years of experience in the field of education. She has also worked in the non-profit sector with organizations like the Boys and Girls Club and Young Life.


Penny Carothers (Board Secretary) has a B.A. in History from Reed College and an M.P.A. with an International Development certificate from the University of Washington. Penny has traveled internationally in India and worked in various capacities with international nonprofits. Penny is presently a social justice editor for the Burnside Writers Collective, an online magazine.


Peter Buck (Board Officer) has a B.A. in Art History and a J.D. from Northwestern School of Law. He has been a practicing attorney for eleven years including his role as assistant general counsel to a non-profit health insurer in Washington State. He currently works as a managing director of business development for a market research company.
